London Boat Show 2006 (January 6-15)
Sir Chay Blyth speaks to Dee Caffari in a live link-up at the London Boat Show
The Admiralty Leisure team has enjoyed
great success at the London Boat Show with the launch of the new RYA Chart
Plotter and a West of Scotland Folio.
Famous round-the-world yachtsman Sir Chay Blyth, of Challenge Business,
together with the UKHO’s Corporate PR Manager Nick Tasker, launched the 2006
chart plotter on the Admiralty stand B505 at ExCeL in London’s Docklands.
This featured a live link-up with yachtswoman Dee Caffari in the South Atlantic
on “Aviva Challenge” as she attempts to follow in Sir Chay’s wake and sail
single-handed non-stop round the world against the prevailing winds and
currents.
She has received sponsorship from Admiralty Leisure and expressed her delight
at the Admiralty products aiding her navigation. The event was well attended by
journalists from the Leisure marine trade press, including a television film
crew.
The revitalised Admiralty Leisure Chart
Plotter has been updated and now offers full Tidal Information for 2006, has no
expiry date and is the perfect introduction to electronic navigation. The
Admiralty Leisure Folio series has been expanded with the new 28-chart Oban
Folio, the essential guide to cruising the beautiful whisky isles of Scotland.
Jill Wardle, Director of Admiralty Leisure Division: said: “The stand has been
incredibly busy with people buying charts, as well as having the opportunity to
try the chart plotter.”
The Leisure team also celebrated the tenth anniversary of the introduction of
ARCS. This was marked by the cutting of a cake on the stand by PC Maritime Ltd,
the first company to sell ARCS a decade ago.
Also on the stand for the first time was a Print-While-U-Wait service. This
offered special one-off reproduction charts from Admiralty Leisure Folios.
Visitors could request replacements for damaged or extensively updated sheets,
or even commission a special A2 chart showing friends where their boat is
moored, or highlighting a specific location.
Visitors to the stand had the chance to
take part in a free prize draw. Top prize of a full set of 2006 Admiralty RYA Chart Plotters went to David Tarlo, of West Yorkshire.
Ten prizes of a single chart plotter pack of their choice went to runners-up:
• Mr T Olsen, Argyll
• Mr R Gosling, West Sussex
• Mr S Chalk, Hertfordshire
• Mr B Bailey, Somerset
• Mrs M Gooch, Essex
• Mrs G Billington, East Sussex

The new Admiralty Leisure stand |
Admiralty Leisure teamed up with the Met Office, who
were previewing their MetWeb and MarineCall online services, and BBC weatherman
Phil Avery was there to add some celebrity appeal to visitors on the first
Saturday of the show.
Admiralty Leisure showcased the new North Wales Leisure
Folio and a prototype of the enhanced 2006 Admiralty RYA Chart Plotter (due for
release later this year) as well as the ever popular Admiralty Collection

Admiralty Leisure continues to be the preferred choice for mariners young and
old. We endeavour to maintain our products to the highest standards whilst
reacting to customer needs to improve and enhance the products and service
available. This can be seen in the changes now being made to the Chart Plotter
